the Republican VP is incapable of dealing with unscripted interactions with the press and others and the campaign's continued denial of access is proof of this fact.

Because she's a dolt and they're afraid that'll become more obvious every-time she has to answer any questions. It really is that simple. She's just not a very smart person when it comes to national and international affairs and is in waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over her head.

They're both hiding. I wonder if they're just going to repeat all the lies at the debates? It would be kind of hard for McCain to be learning a new script. He hasn't gotten this one down very well yet and we know he's not very bright.

Campbell Brown on CNN this evening, if you see the video somewhere it has to be posted!
She went on and on with her feelings about 'Free the REAL Sarah Palin'. It was so awesome! I wrote an email to CNN just to congratulate her.
I would say that Campbell has reached her limit as far as the media blackout of Sarah Palin giving interviews.

I saw it when it aired. I was in the other room and heard a somewhat angry Campbell.

This is not correct. Obama has held a lot of rallies and hand-picked "town halls", but he hasn't had a press conference since his Magical Mystery tour overseas. He hasn't had one in America in over a year.

Who would ever respect America if ever she is elected as VP ??!!
Even Third World country candidates face the press and have postgraduate degrees related to economics, governance, law, or international relations. Or perhaps they face the press precisely because of that.

Sarah Palin is not conducting her own interviews for security reasons. Instead, the McCain campaign has chosen to use Tine Fey as Sarah Palin stunt double for all interviews. Unfortunately, Tina is very busy with her own show right, so there is a booking problem with her agent.
Rumor has it we will see Sarah's stunt double [Tina] on future episodes of SNL very soon.

- 10 votes
For security reasons--do you mean she's feeling vulnerable and a little insecure?
- 6 votes
Actually, I think Sarah is feeling vulnerable that the McCain campaign is shooting itself in the foot and she doesn't want to blow her future chances with what remains of the evangelical movement she has been able to take-over!
A little known story broke last night that completely derail McCain:
Documentation proving McCain's campaign director and trusted very close friend, Rick Davis was as recently as last month receiving a $15,000.00/month consulting fee from Freddy Mac.
Apparently Mr. Davis after loosing his $30,000.00/month salary as head of the Home Owners whatever lobbying firm tied to Fanny Mea and Freddy Mac, went back to Freddy Mac and asked to be a privately paid consultant through his own personal firm, based on his association with John McCain in part.
Conflict of Interest:
This is key as Freddy Mac was taken over by the government and put into receivership back in March, which means since March the American tax-payer has been paying the $15,000.00/month fee to Rick Davis who is running John McCain's campaign.
Publicly Lying about the Conflict:
Everyone from one in the McCain campaign including senator McCain in his recent press conference has been telling the news media that Rick Davis consulting with Fanny Mea and Freddy Mac ended in 2006 when the lobbying firm Home Owners whatever stopped the consulting. When in fact he was consulting for a fee as recently as August.
What Consulting?
Supposedly according to the Freddy Mac documents, Rick Davis hasn't been doing anything to earn that $15,000.00/month fee from Freddy Mac beyond a couple meals and a speech in 2 years. I guess he has been really busy trying to get McCain elected as the next president or something. So actually Rick Davis hasn't been doing anything for the tax-payer, while being paid by the tax-payer which is really going to look bad as well.
The Devil in the Details:
As the FBI investigates Fanny Mea and Freddy Mac, more is going to come out and more witnesses will become informants. At a minimum, Rick Davis is probably looking at jail time and stiff financial penalties.
End of a Maverick?
Even worse the McCain campaign will look very tainted if you consider Phil Gramm deregulated the mortgage market and wrote McCain's economic plan, Rick Davis is running the campaign, plus a host of other financial lobbyist are part of or speaking for the campaign, etc, etc. However, if it is proved that McCain new or was part of this conspiracy his keating 5 days will look like a picnic!
The Election may Already be Over:
Sarah Palin maybe thinking of her own political future at this point. Hoping not to answer question. up to and through the debate, where she can claim ignorance or inexperience!
Then all Sarah Palin has too do is survive trooper-gate! Which she was hoping to quash as vice-president...

Sarah Palin has no business being a candidate for the vice presidency. We know that and she knows that. If she opens her mouth to answer an unscripted question she will reveal her ignorance.
This leaves the campaign with only one option. Take the W route. Only talk to friendly audiences, no questions that aren't pre planned, then she'll look good to the base. It's all they've got, so they're running with it.

Well that's why I think CNN was onto something earlier today when they threatened not to cover her at all today if they didn't get some access to the meetings and McCain's boys backed down some. TThe MEDIA SILENCE from Ms. Palin has been deafening. It appears to many women that the GOP campaign has restricted her from speaking unless they write it and unless they give her permission to speak. This is not the model anyone was hoping for in a female candidate for the office of Vice Presidency. It is essentially a message from GOP that women should be controlled and used and then silenced when told to be quiet by men. Why has a GOVERNOR OF A US STATE complied with this disturbing mandate from a group of male politicians. Is that what Palin and McCain envision as the role of women in the government? to be obedient and quiet?
Are ALL WOMEN supposed to just shut up and go vote for the GOP, and then fade away? This is a really disturbing insight into where women stand in the GOP. They handpick a woman—a GOVERNOR, NO LESS—- and then muzzle her while they feed her the party line. Then—and only then—will she be allowed to speak her mind. This is what WOMEN MEAN TO MCCAIN AND THE GOP.
KEEP YOUR PLACE, WOMEN. SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND BE QUIET. YOUR VIEWS AND OPINIONS ARE NOT WELCOME UNLESS THE GOP CAN SCRIPT THEM FOR YOU.
WHY IS PALIN GOING ALONG WITH THIS?
- 9 votes
WEll, that does make me wonder if in fact she really does the work as governor. I mean she IS always at home,(based on the per diem that she charges) she gives her husband the states papers to his email. Perhaps she is the token and he is the 'shadow governor'.
Also, due to all the investigations up there in Alaska, the McCain camp has taken over the running of the state to the point that people up there are upset. There is a seed here about that.
Also, as a woman myself, I am upset. She hasn't proven to me that she would be a candidate. How do I know? I don't. I don't see her being interviewed or asked questions by anyone. I don't buy the GOP bullsh$$ about Sarah being attacked by the liberal media. If she wants to be a serious candidate and not a joke, she needs to say her own thing.

You guys must make all your decisions based on what you hear and see from the media...because they NEVER say a negative word about Obama...and there's plenty to say!
Now let's look further into their experience:
From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate. That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working. After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World .... 143 days.
You couldn't get a job at McDonalds and become district manager after 143 days of experience.
You couldn't become chief of surgery after 143 days of experience of being a surgeon.
You couldn't get a job as a teacher and be the superintendent after 143 days of experience.
You couldn't join the military and become a colonel after a 143 days of experience.
You couldn't get a job as a reporter and become the nightly news anchor after 143 days of experience.
BUT....
Strangely, a large sector of the American public thinks Obama's lack of experience qualifies him to be the President of the United States, but Sarah Palin's far greater experience disqualifies her to be the vice-president.
Only a liberal Democrat would be dumb enough to come to that conclusion.
Come on folks, we are not voting for the next American Idol!
- 7 votes
Maybe you can get Mac to let her come out so we can watch her land on her "experience"?

Qualified or not, at least Obama can answer a question about what he would do and why he wants to be president. Palin, after weeks of "bootcamp" has now been sent on a field trip, and still can't answer a question at all.

Hanna, give it up, you can't talk sense into to a close minded liberal (some of them can think for themselves, but most just follow the flock), it just doesn't compute. They can't get past the fact that other educated, thinking, individuals may arrive at a different educated opinion than they do.
Have you ever seen what happens to Mr. Obama when his teleprompter goes down. I don't have the link handy, but if you look hard enough, you can find it on youtube.

Hanna Girl
Obama has placed himself in front of the American public for the last 19 months and has had numerous press conferences, TV interviews, debates, and public appearances where people were allowed to ask questions. We have gotten to know him and have made adecision on whether he is qualified or not.
Palin was nominated and the only time we have seen her since except for the Gibson interview, which didn't go to well, is at planned campaign appearences. She won't even take questions from the press corp that is traveling with her.
There are numerous questions swirling around and the McCain campaign is hiding her away, until she gets out there and takes questions in a no holds barred press conference, she does not deserve any ones support that doesn't know her personally. Supporting her on what is basically a movie clip is like giving an Oscar based on a trailer.
Experience, Mayor of a town of 6,000, Governor of a state with a population of 670,000. IMO the press and everyone else has forgotten that Alaska is the only state in the union that does not have to worry about income. All of their income comes from the oil companies and earmarks from the federal government, and yes she asked for them from the time she has held public office. She needs to stand up and take the heat for what she has been saying, then us that are not falling all over ourselves can see what she is really made of.
- 9 votes
What really concerns me is the cowardice this shows on McCain's part. If he were confident in his pick, he wouldn't be locking her away like this. Clearly, McCain sees that Palin's speaking is a major liability. Obama lets Biden talk, and he's prone to his gaffes. This Republican ticket is not to be trusted.
- 10 votes
I believe she has shown she is nothing but moose-chips.

I think he was a state senator too, so give credit where credit is due. Palin ran a town that was about twice the size of my high school, and is the governor of a state (for only two years) with a population smaller than San Francisco and that has no budget deficits due to its oil revenues that pay a dividend to the "tax payers" every year. Is that what you call experience?
- 7 votes
You made a good case, Hanna. Obama doesn't have the same amount of experience as McCain. But all McCain's years of experience in office don't seemed to have helped him become a good decision-maker. I'll take Obama's judgment over McCain's (and Palin's lack of) experience.
- 11 votes
Hanna-girl do you know Palin girl maybe you could translate for her so she could speak for herself. You know no teleprompters to read off of I mean her own words. Like do you get it Hanna-girl.
As a politician you cannot hide and meet in back rooms, that worked in the wild wild west and yes maybe in Alaska. But no how no can way she do that in Washington DC and she cannot take her husband with her in international meetings with heads of state.
Her college experience and education is all she will have to rely on. You know uno to uno.

Said one of McCain's top aides:
"She's become like the Beatles or U2," King said. "She's got a certain celebrity status now – people want to see her; they want to hear her."
So, by choosing Palin, McCain has killed two of his major strategies against Obama:
1) McCain can no longer effectively challenge Obama's experience. Obama has more experience than Sarah Palin. The Republican spin that she is a font of "executive experience" doesn't fly. Sure, she was a mayor for eight years, and she has been the governor of Alaska for less than 2 years, but there is no way that her role as part-time mayor of Wasilla matches Obama's seven years in the Illinois state Senate. His four years in the US Senate trump her 1.5 years as governor of the third least populous state, and her tenure which is so littered with scandals and questions. I won't even touch the educational experience issue, which is so lopsided it isn't even fair. Of course there is the problem that Republican logic that touts her "executive experience" means that those who profess such experience must also believe she would be a better fit for the Oval Office than McCain himself.
2) Say goodbye, McCain, to painting Obama as a celebrity. Your own spokesman declared Sarah Palin to be as big as the Beatles. Even Brittney Spears was never as big as the Beatles! Good job, Sarah: you must be the biggest celebrity in the world! So much for the argument that popularity = bad. Of course, of all the markets Palin has tried to corner with her star power, she just can't manage to get other countries and world leaders behind her. Oh, right: they think she's horrendous, and they already trust Obama at the helm of the free world (this might loop us back to the experience question...all these foreign leaders can't be wrong: whatever experience Obama has, pretty much everyone who is or has been a president or prime minister agrees that he's got what it takes). And anyway, daddy won't let Palin come out and play, so we don't know how she'll do against these world leaders...except Putin. She'd nuke him.
Looks like the lights are dimming, John. You would be doing your country a favor by handing the show over to Obama.
- 8 votes
People seem to forget, that Mr. Obama is also white, however, he seems not to cling to that part of his ancestry...is he ashamed? I for one thou, could care less what color he is, what he looks like, who he prays to.
I'm not voting for him, because change for the sake of change is just STUPID. I need to know what he is going to try and change (word for word, out of his mouth). When I hear him tell me what he's going to change, and how he's going to pay for it without raising anyone's taxes. If he raises taxes on oil and big business, then he raises my taxes, because the burden will be passed down to me. So that leaves the poor to pay the bill, and well, that's just not going to work either.
So, the only thing I can see Mr. Obama is going to change is that stuff going jingle jingle in my pockets. I believe if he were to win, I would have less rather than more and with three kids, less isn't going to cut it. It will mean I have to get another job and spend even less time with my family. So, once again, I loose even more.
I could care less if someone calls me a racist because I vote for McCain, I counter and say, if you vote for Mr. Obama based on his skin color, then you are a racist. If you accuse me of being a racist because I pick McCain, based on his qualifications, then you are a racist, and are part of the problem.
Above all, allow your fellow Americans to be Americans, and allow them to have other feelings and beliefs than you, without insulting their intelligence.

You make some valid points. Obama's web site spells out what and how he intends to make changes. The paying for it is also addressed, you can find numerous sites that disagree with both the McCain and Obama plans and what each would cost. One thing that they all seem to agree on is that McCain's plans would cost more in deficit spending.
History has shown that even through the democrats have been painted as tax and spend under republican leadership the government has grown more, spent more, and have not grown the economy as much as the democrats. The only people that do better traditionally with republicans in charge are the top 10 to 15 percent.
Your handle implies that you like to think for yourself which is an adminaral trait, so I would ask that you google Republicans versus democrats effect on the economy, their are numerous studies and articles supporting my statement about the economy.
IMO you stand a better chance to have more jingle in your pocket with Obama than McCain.

Why is the American Media being denied access to Sarah Palin who is running to be VP of the country? The Republicans and John McCain's campaign (by shielding Ms. Palin) are giving many voters the impression that Sarah Palin is incapable of dealing with issues affecting the Politics, Economics, Social Issues and Foreign Relations of the USA. In the absence of full disclosure, one has to conclude that some major deficiency is the problem. Any politician worth their salt in any area of the country views the Media as an important Area to articulate their policies and having done so, get a feed back from Voters. It seems that there is something risky or something to hide about Ms. Palin. Perhaps it has to do with her lack of knowledge of key Issues or a fear of hard questions on her record as a politician? Will American Voters allow this Abomination to continue and vote blindly for a blank cheque candidate? Or will the people demand a full exposure to the Media of Ms. Palin views and policies? Failing which, Will Voters display the same contempt held for Americans by the McCain campaign and reject the McCain/Palin ticket for disrespecting Voters Right to Information? Or will Americans be again saddled with another 4 years of George Bush and Dick Cheney disguised as John McCain and Sarah Palin?

The MSM is sore because they didn't bother to vet her themselves, and now they're playing catch-up. Now they're mad because they aren't getting the access they think they're entitled to. There's still plenty of time before the election. Chill out. From the venom on this thread it's obvious that most of you won't vote for her anyway, so stop complaining.
- 1 vote
I believe it is McCain who didn't vet her and now may wish he hadn't. My money still says he drops her by Halloween.
- 4 votes
Why would you vet someone who wasn't even on the radar before her coronation? She wasn't vetted because she was a last minute pick put up be the rabid right wing so that they would keep the money flowing, because they wouldn't backthe ticet without their mouthpiece being part of the plan. Is there any wonder that Lieberman didn't get the call?
- 4 votes
You're both totally wrong about this: there are a lot of people who knew about her, because we don't suckle at the MSM teat for all our vittles.
And just because YOU didn't know who she was before she was announced as the VP pick, doesn't mean that the McCain team didn't thoroughly vet her. Like I said, the MSM is mad that they got caught flat-footed on this one.
In picking Palin, McCain doubled down on his energy focus, and we just found out today that Congress is going to let the drilling ban expire. The McCain campaign brilliantly executed the announcement of his VP pick, taking the wind out of Obama's DNC sails, and kept the national focus on the energy crisis, and now it's getting results.

You are right that a lot of people are not going to vote for McCain, the question is why won't Palin take questions from the media. Everyone knows that conventions and scheduled campaign speeches are designed to make the candidates look perfect and do not show the full story.
For the American public the only source we have for information is the news media, and while they have been know to spin on both sides, a live press conference without editing of the candidates answers tells us a lot. Caveat being interviewed by a known left or right leaning one person interviewer doesn't count.
Right now Palin's popularity rating is starting to drop, The bottom line is the public has every right to hear her take questions, and if she doesn't want to take them from the press, take them from the public, democrats and republicans.
This fact is what is starting to piss people off, not just the media, she is a candidate for a job which is a heartbeat away from the presidency we deserve more respect from the McCain campaign. They do not get to decide what we think is important, and I can't understand why the republicans are not getting upset, we and I mean all of us are being treated like idiots. The campaign has basically said we will tell you what we think you need to know, and don't question us about it.

My point is that there's still time to get to know enough about her to make an informed decision, but there's not that much info out there in the MSM because they weren't doing their jobs and didn't see her coming. It is unreasonable to expect unrestricted 24x7 access to her, so she's doing this on her own schedule.

You're right their is enough time but only if she will start making herself available. If she continues to hide we must assume one of two things, the campaign has complete control of her or she is afraid of making an unfrettered appearance.
1. If the campaign has complete control, we definitely don't want her as vice president, or any other position because she is not in charge.
2. Being afraid is what anyone in her position should be, but she must get out and let the American public see what she thinks, not what the campaign thinks.
Biden has disagreements with Obama and as such is much more likely to give advice on problems and not just be a figurehead. If the only talking points Palin has come from the campaign she is not qualified IMO. What are her opinions, she should have some idea of what she thinks is the right path without having to be coached on everything.

Roger,
Although we have differing political views, I do like your style. I must agree with your points about Palin getting out and telling us her opinions and what she's about. I would be much more comfortable seeing how she deals with being in the hot seat with the press.
The fecal matter she takes from the press will be mild compared to what she will have to put up with should she have to become president. I think she can handle herself, but I'd like to have a bit more proof and what better way to practice that spar with the press?

The woman can't stand the heat of the kitchen because she doesn't cook much... you know, with being fabulous, make-up, and being a governatrix and all! Come on Sarah, say "CHEESE"! You can eat that cold. What MOOSE recipees do you have up your sleeve?

I've seen her on old clips popping up on youtube and if they let her be herself she'd be less embarassing, than this charade. I mean her pick was a farce but now John McCain is looking like a pimp who wont let his new girl hit the track until she's been properly groomed.
Which means she aint even a good ho cuz if she was, she'd be ready to roll..I can't believe I said that so if ya clip me I undastand
